Potential Ideas for Film Opening

Idea 1-
The first idea we had was a horror movie. We felt this was a genre which we could easily portray to our audiences. Similarly in our audiences feedback a lot of people said they enjoyed horror movies and the tense atmosphere created throughout. Our idea was centred around a young girl who had schizophrenia and kept seeing thing that weren't actually there and picturing herself in situations that she wasn't in fact in. We didn't continue with this idea because we felt that that this was a hugely sensitive topic and we would have to approach it with care. Additionally horror is a very popularly done genre and we wanted to do something a little different. Furthermore the actual filming of this would be very tricky and we would have to try and fit a lot into a small amount of time which may have confused our audience.

Idea 2-
We had an idea to do a romantic comedy. We both had a keen interest and have watched a lot of films within this genre. We wanted to base it on the concept of love at first sight. We liked the idea of having a woman walking down the street (we particularly liked London for this idea) and something happening causing her to meet/come into contact with a mysterious man who she had a special connection with. We felt we could make this fun and happy and really get our audience to smile. We decided against this idea for many reasons. Firstly the location being so far away, if we needed to re shoot anything it would be very difficult. Also in our research on the film industry we discovered that romcoms make up just 1% of Box Office takings. This makes it a hugely unpopular genre. Similarly it means we would only be approaching a niche audience because it's mostly women that watch these types of films, whereas other genres were a lot more popular.

Idea 3-
We looked at some potential clips and really liked some hospital dramas we saw and we really felt some created a very emotional atmosphere and engaged us right from the start. We thought about playing with the relationship between a father and his daughter. We thought he could be a single dad with a daughter who was very poorly and the story surrounding this, such as his relationships etc. We really liked this idea but knew it would be impossible to carry out successfully. We wouldn't be able to create the right location (the hospital) or have any of the right props to create mise en scene (such as the bed, the machines etc). It also doesn't have a clear genre (that we would be able to portray to our audience), because we found that the majority of hospital dramas were television shows and there were few films out there in this genre.
